The Kitchen Tour Experience: Behind the Scenes at San Jose del Cabo's Open Fire Restaurant

Go behind the scenes at Kitchen in San Jose del Cabo. See the charcoal grill up close, meet the team, learn about our 1,500-day sourdough starter Andrea.

Kitchen San José del Cabo

The Kitchen Tour Experience at Kitchen in San Jose del Cabo is not your typical restaurant tour. What you get is genuine access to a working open-fire kitchen, a chance to stand next to the charcoal grill while dishes are being prepared, and a conversation with the team about why we cook everything over live fire.

What the Kitchen Tour Includes

The Charcoal Grill

This is the heart of Kitchen. A custom-built charcoal grill where everything on the menu gets cooked. During the tour, you stand close enough to feel the heat. The team explains how different zones of the grill run at different temperatures, and how the charcoal is sourced locally from mesquite wood.

The Bread Station and Andrea

Andrea is our sourdough starter. She has been alive for over 1,500 days, fed daily, and she produces all the bread served at Kitchen. During the tour, you meet Andrea. Guests consistently say this is the most memorable part of the tour.

The Prep Area

Before service begins, the kitchen is a study in organization. The tour walks you through how a small team prepares for a full evening of service.

The Open Kitchen Philosophy

Chef Nacho designed Kitchen with zero walls between the cooking and the dining. There is no pass window, no swinging door, no separation. This was intentional.

Who the Tour Is For

  • Food enthusiasts: If you care about how your food is made, this is your stop.
  • Couples looking for a unique experience: Combine the tour with a dinner reservation.
  • Families with curious kids: Children are fascinated by the open fire and the sourdough starter.
  • Corporate groups and team events: The tour works as an icebreaker before a private dinner.
  • Food tour operators: The Kitchen Tour can be integrated into walking food tours of the Art District.
